SCENE 1

60s street scene moves across, an interior scene follows, again decorated showing it's 60s.

LEN and CON come in, LEN holding a letter and frowning. Both are in their 20s, fashionably dressed for mid 1960s England, hair styled, made up tastefully and look confident.

LEN: It's not like Dad at all. He's as good as insisted we come back home this summer.

CON : He says it's because it's likely the last one we'll all manage all together, but there's something else...

LEN : Let's see what he's told Margot. She talks to him much more often than we do.

Girls go to phone, stand close together to talk into phone.

On other side of stage a spotlight lights up Margot answering and some unheard conversation, LEN and CON clearly asking a question.

MARGOT: I don't know, but he seems worried about Mamma. He says she isn't herself, that he feels she needs a breath of fresh air. I know she hasn't seemed to have much to say when he puts her on the phone.

LEN: That's a strange thing in itself, Dad having to get Mamma on the phone. I remember her being a nightmare when we first came to Oxford, could barely get a day without her calling.

CON : Well whatever it is, Dad's worried about something.

MARGOT: I think it's her. Flixy says Mamma hasn't been out much really for ages. Even to the school. I think we have to go.

LEN: If Mamma needs us, of course we'll go. But I just wish I knew if ... (tapers off)

CON : If Reg will be there? He probably will Len.

MARGOT : It's been two years Len, he may have a girlfriend himself. And you can't avoid home forever, you'll have to face him some stage.

LEN : I know... It's decided then. We go?

MARGOT : I think we have to, Dad doesn't ask for things like this, after all.

CON : Yes. It'll be fun to be together again. The boys have already said yes according to Dad's letter, so there'll be plenty of us to liven the place up a bit!

Fade to black. Triplets shown travelling, first separately, then meeting together and going by train.

They arrive and are met by Jack in Minny the minibus.
