I hope this is the turning point for Kathie but she has a hard and long road to follow before she can be fully forgiven, or hope to lead the School. (Sorry I am late with this review, Mary, busy!)

I wonder if Nancy realises how well she will fit into her new roel when the time comes and how far she has come during all of this. Her approach to that talk was all it should be, well balanced with both the truth and gravity of the situation yet with some gentle humour to ligthen the blow.
It must be very painful for Kathie to finally see herself as others do and to know just how far she has fallen. It's never easy once one's conscience wakes up with a vengeance and I hope Kathie will see this through and truly make the effort to change her ways. It may be too late for some relationships but she will also discover who the true friends are as they will support her all the way as long as she is genuine.
Both Gill and Julie may surprise her and prove to be steadying influences for Kathie in the future. Julie still seems to feel Kathie will be Head at Millies and to know she has someone to go to if that pride and arrogance rears it's head will be of immeasurable help to Kathie.
Jeanne is so strong for a girl her age, her championship of Ellie against a mistress is wonderful and please let Kathie learn from it. Now for Mireille's reaction which will be so important for Kathie's mindset moving forward.
The fact that Kathie is now seeing MA as someone who will help her and also help her and Nancy bodes well. I just hope this keeps up and Kathie can come out of this a better person, one who sees her own faults as well as strengths.

Ah! Nancy is beginning to getting the hang of things… “sometimes seems God never hears us, girls, but then He does something unique and magical for us, something small that can mean so much, and we realise He does care, after all.”
And Kathie wakes up…”That hadn’t really happened, so why was a tiny seed of courage taking root beside the enormous weight of her shame?”
Of course, Nancy is grounded with feet & floor engaged as always… “Nancy, however, knew they had to strike while the iron was hot!” …and then she really puts it all together and takes off into orbit by phoning MA to bring her up to speed and take counsel…I have a feeling she will be a worthy successor!
Kathie is turned every which way, but is dealt with very graciously by Gillian and both Jeannes... signs of hope. And a cliff too! (I am partial to cliffs, Mary, so don’t apologise!) Thanks again!

I'm sure all the girls and staff were shocked to hear of Hilda's serious condition; we know that those who are close to both her and to Ellie will take comfort in knowing that they are sharing a room at the San. I wish I had been a fly on the wall, though, to know what Vivien said in that short service; I'm extremely glad that her words have, for now at least, had such a salutary effect on Kathie. Time alone will tell whether the change in her is permanent (and even then, I suspect there will be days when she struggles) but if she can only accept the offer of God's help she has received, then surely it can't help but give her strength. At least people are accepting her apologies, though in some cases obviously with reservations. And I'm very glad that Nancy now feels she herself has the freedom to turn to Mother Abbess for advice and comfort for herself whenever she may need it in these anxious times - that will be a great help to her.
Thank you, Mary

Reading this again, it really does seem hopeful - at last - for Kathie's future at the school, and once Hilda is well enough to hear, will be a burden that she will feel is lifting, and half term at the Convent should be just what Kathie needs

Nancy and Vivien really try to follow Hilda's example here. Nancy admits to not knowing God well but wants to learn to know Him better. Interesting that Hilda's illness and Kathy's jealousy is challenging both Nancy and Kathy to look at their faith.
MA is right "You do so much for Hilda’s sake, Father. Even this! She’s too ill to thank You, so I’ll do it for her,"
Kathy is hopefully starting to see the depths she has fallen to and recognising that she needs help. The title of this chapter really fits Kathy.
