Reviews For A Proper Ending

Really liked this. I've always found the shutting out of Susan to be problematic, so getting an alternative ending as well as a Hilda/Nell story is great!

A fantastic story. I have always hated "The Last Battle" because of the way Susan was treated. I still wont be re reading it again but it is a great comfort to know there is hope for her. Bill and Hilda reacted exactly as you would expect them to.

Thank you Elennare. The Narnia books are amongst my favourite series. I read them for the first time as a University student in the 70s, so came late to them, but love them still.

I think Hilda's alternative ending is perfect and in fitting with CS Lewis's own writings.

Hilda and Nell's comments about ‘lipstick, nylons, and invitations’ not keeping Susan out of Narnia is interesting and perhaps slightly ironic, in view of the fact that the CS (or perhaps better said EBD's) stance seems to be to keep the girls young and slightly old-fashioned.

Author's Response:

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

The CS does try to keep the girls young, but even then, they are expected to pay some attention to their appearance. Also Susan would be in her twenties by then, and in St Mildred's for instance the girls are allowed (even encouraged) to use make-up if they do so tastefully. Hilda and Nell might think a girl like the Susan described in Last Battle - who cares only about those things - rather silly, vain, frivolous, maybe a waste of potential? But I can't see them agreeing that she deserves damnation just for that, never in a million years. (Especially since so much of society consantly tells girls even now that 'makeup and clothes and parties' are all they should care about... and then turns around and mocks them for it, ugh.)

If Edmund could get into Narnia I am sure Susan could.  I agree with Hilda it would be Lucy who asked and who needed the hope that Aslan's kiss gave.

Thanks for the drablle.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! I think Lucy might be the only one brave enough to ask... Edmund would probably think that too, that if he was allowed in Susan would be; and I can't see Peter questioning Aslan.

Really enjoyed this thank you. Am glad you gave Susan a better ending too. I'm still reeling a little from finding out a while back that you were planning a better end for Susan just at the same time I was completely separately thinking about her and her ending in Last Battle! Thanks for the reminder of that, realise I never got around to my planned scene with her. :-) This is very true to Hilda and Nell and I like the extra depth that says faith and access to heaven is always fluid. Thanks.

Author's Response:

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. It is funny that we were both thinking about Susan... Great minds think alike ;) I hope you write your scene with her!
