Really felt for Nell there. It's harder to feel for Con as her ignorance made her callous of Nell's feelings; and she was selfish about how her leaving would affect Nell

Horrible, but fits perfectly. So sad ! Thank you for this though it's been really well done.

Author's Response:

Thank you. :)

That is cruel, almost, to say that. This seems very likely situation though. Thank you.

I think this is how EBD should have written their breakup.  So very sad especially for Nell but Con  always was the more conventional hence Jock.

Author's Response:

Thank you! It is a really sad situation and must have been a real experience for so many women too - I mostly end up feeling almost as sad for Con as I do for Nell, I think.

Oh, Con and Nell. Two of my favourites - and whatever EBD intended, it's clear to me that they were in love, and that that love ended when Con went off with Jock McKenzie. So sad :(

Author's Response:

Really sad. :( I have tried to be very open-minded, blah blah modern eyes subtexts blah blah, but I really struggle to see Nell and Con, in canon, as 'just' friends. They always seemed v much in love to me. Thanks for commenting!

Wow ! Really well put together and so likely. Much as I want to say DISlike, because of the sadness of their situation, it is a definite Like, thank you.

Author's Response:

Thank you very much. I was so determined I didn't want to write this one - I wanted to write as though 'New CS' was the end of the series - but it just wouldn't go away.
